On April 26 and 27, the 11th International Conference on Innovation in Journalism, titled “Mobile First, Multi-Screen Communication,” will take place in the Aula Magna of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) in Elche. The Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences and the Department of Social and Human Sciences of the UMH organize this event, where professionals and academics will discuss and share their experiences in producing content for mobile devices.

The researcher and professor of Communication Theory at the University of Murcia, Juan Miguel Aguado, will deliver the opening lecture, addressing the challenges of ubiquitous information. João Canavilhas, professor at the Universidade da Beira Interior (UBI) and member of the Labcom UBI Research Center, will analyze the relationship between journalism and mobility. The conference will also feature Carmela Ríos, head of social media at El Mundo. A roundtable discussion will follow, featuring Javier Moya (Don magazine) and Ángel Anaya (Vis-à-Vis magazine), both involved in the creation of tablet-exclusive publications.

The second day will open with a session on the present and future of mobile radio, led by María Jesús Espinosa (El Extrarradio) and Álex García (Radio Gladys Palmera). Later, Millán I. Berzosa, Google News Lab specialist for Spain and Communications Director at Ideas4all, will give the lecture “Innovation and Trending Topics Online in Service of Journalism.” Finally, Ana Ormaechea (Prodigioso Volcán) will close the conference with a talk about the end of the mobile first era.

As every year, the 8th Ricardo Ortega Journalistic Report Contest Awards will also be presented.

Registration, Payment, and Fees

Registration and payment for the XI International Journalism Conference must be made through umh.es/recibos. Attendance entitles participants to an official certificate and 0.5 transversal credits at the UMH.
