The director and founder of ElDiario.es, Ignacio Escolar, will inaugurate the UMH Master’s in Journalism and Democracy, offered in partnership with the Gabo Foundation and Reporters Without Borders. Escolar will engage in a live discussion with journalist and UMH honorary doctor Rosa María Calaf on the first of thirty planned debates on the journalism profession: “Redefining and Understanding Journalism Priorities: New Agendas Amid the Crisis of Democracies.”

The opening event will take place on Friday, 3 October, from 4:00 p.m. in the Main Hall of the Arenals Building on the UMH Elche campus and will be streamed live on UMH’s YouTube channel.

The conversation between Escolar—winner of the 2018 Gabo Award for Journalistic Excellence—and Calaf will be moderated by Colombian journalist and co-director of the master’s, Laura Ardila, and Marcos García Santonja, head of podcasts at ElDiario.es and a UMH Journalism alumnus.

The opening introduction will be given by the master’s directing team, consisting of UMH Journalism professors José Luis González-Esteban, Carmen María López-Rico, and Laura Ardila, together with Alfonso Bauluz, president of RSF-Spain, and Jaime Abello, general director of the Gabo Foundation.
