The director and founder of ElDiario.es, Ignacio Escolar<\/strong>, will inaugurate the UMH Master\u2019s in Journalism and Democracy<\/strong>, offered in partnership with the Gabo Foundation<\/strong> and Reporters Without Borders<\/strong>. Escolar will engage in a live discussion with journalist and UMH honorary doctor Rosa Mar\u00eda Calaf<\/strong> on the first of thirty planned debates on the journalism profession: \u201cRedefining and Understanding Journalism Priorities: New Agendas Amid the Crisis of Democracies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The opening event will take place on Friday, 3 October, from 4:00 p.m.<\/strong> in the Main Hall of the Arenals Building<\/strong> on the UMH Elche campus and will be streamed live on UMH\u2019s YouTube channel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The conversation between Escolar\u2014winner of the 2018 Gabo Award for Journalistic Excellence<\/strong>\u2014and Calaf will be moderated by Colombian journalist and co-director of the master\u2019s, Laura Ardila<\/strong>, and Marcos Garc\u00eda Santonja<\/strong>, head of podcasts at ElDiario.es and a UMH Journalism alumnus.<\/p>\n

The opening introduction<\/strong> will be given by the master\u2019s directing team, consisting of UMH Journalism professors Jos\u00e9 Luis Gonz\u00e1lez-Esteban, Carmen Mar\u00eda L\u00f3pez-Rico, and Laura Ardila<\/strong>, together with Alfonso Bauluz<\/strong>, president of RSF-Spain, and Jaime Abello<\/strong>, general director of the Gabo Foundation.<\/p>\n
